Church Recorders

Twelve volunteers are recording Wanlip Parish Church, north of the city boundary. All churches have valuable artefacts which are part of our national heritage and if lost, stolen, or damaged are irreplaceable if they disappear without trace.

The team is divided into nine groups and they described, measure, find out the history, the manufacturers and designers of each item which is photographed. The section are memorials, metalwork, stonework, woodwork, textiles, paintings, library, windows and miscellaneous.

Five copies are made of the finished work. The Church, Diocese, Victoria and Albert Museum, Council for the Care of Churches and the National Monuments Record Centre receive them. The recording takes approximately two and half years.

This is the 4th church our group is recording. Approximately 1400 have been recorded nationwide. St Mary Magdalene, Knighton, St Nicholas Leicester and St Mary’s Woodhouse is almost complete. We are looking for someone with computer skills who could help us with compiling.
