A Woman Painter Looks at Women Artists By Ghislaine Howard
Ghislaine Howard is a painter of national reputation named as a Woman of the Year 2008 for her contribution to art and society. She has exhibited widely at many previous venues such as Manchester Art Gallery, Canterbury Cathedral, Imperial War Museum North and has work in major public collections including the Royal Collection. She has recently joined the NADFAS lecturers. She is married to NADFAS lecturer Michael Howard and has a Studio/Gallery in Glossop, Derbyshire.
Images of women abound throughout the history of western art but relatively few of these images were actually made by women. Does this matter? This series of 3 linked talks will centre on how the themes of the domestic and personal have been treated by a wide range of female artists and have provided inspiration for Ghislaine. They will reveal an unknown treasure house of deeply moving images and fascinating personalities. Artists will include Angelica Kauffman, Berthe Morisot, Kathe Kollwitz, Frida Kahlo, Paulo Rego, Eileen Cooper and Tracy Emin. The day will surprise and enrich and will appeal to men and women alike. Ghislaine will bring a number of original works which the members will be able to examine.
Cost is £33 for members £36 for non-
